 Bachelor of Arts in English

The newly redesigned English B.A. effectively combines both literature and writing emphases to offer a well-rounded experience for students. As an English major, students will develop a host of skills including writing, editing, problem solving and critical thinking and analysis. With the new curriculum, students will gain breadth as they read widely in World, British, and American literature, as well as depth, by exploring a variety of frameworks (rhetorical, theoretical, linguistic). Students will also have opportunities to join a variety of student publications including the Literary Review or Pinyon. With a well-rounded degree, students are prepared to enter graduate school, law school, or move directly into the workforce as public relations reps, guidance counselors, or technical writers.  Program Requirements.

Secondary Teaching

If you are interested in teaching, you will first gain an expertise in literature and language, then you'll focus on teaching as you design assignments, learn pedagogical theories, work closely with local middle and high school teachers, and complete your student teaching internship. In 2000, the Colorado Department of Education rated our program one of the best in the State for excellent preparation of future teachers. All Teacher Education programs are approved by the Commission on Higher Education and the Colorado Department of Education to prepare teachers for licensure application. Program Requirements.
