Sport Mgmt1The discipline of Sport Management applies to the business of sport in all of its many facets. It includes the planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating within the context of a sport organization. The program provides the theoretical and practical framework for a number of professions that focus on leadership roles, including youth, amateur, and professional sports; recreational, college and university sports programs; and the marketing and management of all sport and fitness-related goods. The primary goals of the program are to develop an in-depth understanding and working knowledge of planning, organizing, leading and evaluating events and projects within sports or fitness organizations. Students also will develop into competent leaders for the various professions that focus on sports and fitness. This major is also good preparation for graduate school in the areas of sport business and business administration. Sport Management is very closely related to traditional business operations (marketing, management, promotion, facilities, and events management, etc.)

The Sport Management degree can be earned completely online. For more information regarding the online degree contact the Kinesiology Department at 970.248.1635, or email Krista Bonino at [email protected].

For in-person learning, we offer most courses via in-person and online formats, alternating between Fall and Spring semesters. Students should review options with their advisor as some courses may only be offered online due to faculty scheduling.

The Bachelor of Science in Sport Management can lead into an MBA or Master's in Sport Management. (Colorado Mesa University offers an MBA with a track in Sport Management through the Davis School of Business)

If you are considering an Internship for Sport Management, you should read this short "road map" before you get started. Here are some basis guidelines and procedures you need to follow:

  1. Print and read the Internship Manual. The manual contains the forms that you will need for the internship and additional, stand-alone forms. Internship Application
  2. Plan on meeting with me for about 15 minutes to discuss your plan before you begin your internship.
  3. A couple of the forms must be signed and on file prior to beginning your internship.
  4. If there are logistical issues about registration, time to complete the work, graduation, etc., bring these things to our meeting. (I suggest that you begin a notebook for the internship to keep all of your forms, answers to your questions, and relevant information in one place).
